After a 3-4 start to the season, the Nashville Bluebirds have their first winning streak of 2044. The Birds were only able to take 1 win away from perennial Landis contenders, Yellow Springs Nine. However, the return trip home yielded sweet fruit as they were able to sweep the Madison Wolves in three games. The Birds had a lot of support at the top of the lineup due to leadoff first baseman, Nacho Méndez, who was 6 for 13 with 6 RBI in the three game sweep.
“We just go out there and play our game, j’know. We hit the ball good and the pitches do good, too,” said Méndez.

Most of the team’s success this season has come from the pitching staff, who have combined for a 3.26 ERA. The starting pitcher has made it into the sixth inning of every game this year except for bullpen days, where opener Ta-heng Hor has pitched splendidly thus far, allowing 0 ER in his two starts. Hor is earning every penny of the 2 year $2 million extension he signed in the offseason.

“A lot of our bullpen guys are getting a little stir crazy down there. Our boys up top have been pitching deep into games and we can only play so much poker in the pen. It’s not a good problem to have, though, and we don’t mind sitting back and watching them mow down matters,” said Steve Nebraska Golden Arm runner-up, Lorenzo de’ Medici.

LdM, Martin Román, and Gustavo Muñóz have recorded 33 IP this season, leaving 1.1 IP between five other bullpen members.
The Bluebirds look to stay hot tonight on the road against the Chicago Black Sox as they go for consecutive sweeps. Chin Kim will be on the mound looking for his third win of the season. The left hander has thrown 14 IP and allowed 3 ER this season, earning the veteran a two year extension worth $3.8 million.

The road trip continues west tomorrow as the Bluebirds will travel to San Fernando for a three game set followed by another three game set in Seattle.

His last contract (6/$11.9M), even before the ink had the chance to dry, was one of the best team-friendly deals ever.

Actually, I believe this was his demand with a player option, so I was even able to remove that. @jleddy
