Nashville's Kidane Ata has had quite a unique journey throughout his professional career. Early in his career he had the intrigue of a true two-way player, and indeed did do that from 2040-2041. Since then, however, Nashville management has had him again concentrate solely on being their everyday center fielder. Las year, Ata hit 29 homers and drove in 97, but struck out 156 times and posted a dismal .278 OBP. Through April of this season, it looked as if Ata was on a similar path (5 HR, 14 RBI, .234/.268/.421/.688 with 30 strikeouts in 107 at-bats).

When the calendar turned May, a new Ata came to play. The strikeouts were way down (17 in 112 AB), production was up (12 HR, 19 RBI) and his slash line was outstanding (.321/.353/.696/1.049).

In the beginning of June his hot hitting has continued. "Ata is finally coming into his own," said GM Matt Rectenwald. "Unfortunately for us, it's coming at a time when his arbitration years are coming to an end."

Will Nashville and Ata be able to come to a long term agreement? It's a story worth monitoring.
