Bobby Beat 2002 v3: We Didn't Even Have to Use the AK

Washington, DC--

Regarding June 1st, 2002, as the song goes: Today was a Good Day.

That morning, MBWBA League Offices confirmed what Bobwhite fans have known all season long. Namely, that their young third baseman is pretty good. So good, in fact, that Paco Morales collected his second straight JL Rookie of the Month Award. As of this writing, Paco is hitting .380, currently tied for 4th place in the league batting race. Morales has also jacked 13 homers, driven in 38, and recorded a 24.8 VORP. Not bad for a late 3rd round pick from Baja California.

Later that night, The Bobs travelled to Phoenix for a tussle with the Talons. The Bobs won the game 5-0 as 41 year old Ken Howell scattered 3 hits over his seven innings. But that wasn't even close to being the story of the night, as veteran RF Terry Blass made history when he hit for the cycle, becoming the second player this season to do so. "This 'one star' player still has life in the ol' bat yet!" the Wichita, KS native said.

In addition, Bobs first baseman Neil McKinney, who is awesome, slugged his 20th homer that day, en route to being named JL Player of the Week two days later.

It was a good day!

So....wait...you traded to get Shane Christen back to stank it up with you again?? And gave up on Ken Howell's apparent second wind? I think all the Talons deals have made you too trade-happy...

And what, exactly would Ken Howell have done for me for the last 2.5 months of a lost season? I wasn't planning on re-signing him.
