A Flock of Bluebirds 2042.7- Final Roster Cutdown
Monday, March 31st, 2042

The Nashville Bluebirds announced their final roster decisions to get to the maximum of 27 active players for 2042 Opening Day. Let's take a look at the moves:

Placed RP Edris Mtume on the 60-day injured list.
Placed RF Alonso Olvere on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to 03/23/2042.
First, the injuries. The loss of Mtume for the entirety of the 2042 season hurts. First, they put money into him (and Delgado) they could have used to sign Julio Alicea. This also leaves a big hole in the bullpen. It's a hole that can be filled with the depth assembled, perhaps not to the level of production Mtume would have provided.

Olvere was shutdown with Plantar Fascitis for five weeks. It is likely he won't return until the early part of May. Projected to be the DH against RHP, the Bluebirds have sufficient depth to fill the loss of Olvere relatively easily. This move means last years rookie 100-RBI man, Sixto Mejia, avoids being sent to the minors and instead will fill Olvere's role. It's a great opportunity for him to force the issue when Olvere is cleared to play again.

Optioned C Ramón Camacho to Triple A Orlando.
As expected, Camacho goes to Orlando (AAA) to get regular playing time after spending all of 2041 with the Bluebirds as a Rule 5 pick. Veteran Jesus Ayala returns to the big leagues after a one year absence in the backup catcher/starter vs LHP role with Nashville.

Assigned 3B Sam Wade from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned SS Robert Franklin to Triple A Orlando.
In the end, Nashville decided to bring CI Javier Bultron north with the club after a blistering spring. Bultron will also be able to spell Ernesto Souza at first base against tough lefties.

Optioned RF Stephen Lord to Triple A Orlando.
This move sucked. Lord absolutely belongs on a big league roster, but for now, he'll have to go to Orlando (hopefully with a chip on his shoulder) and tear up Triple-A pitching until he's needed in the bigs.

Optioned RP Ash Davenport to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned RP Gerald Abbott to Triple A Orlando.
Purchased the contract of RP Ash Davenport from Triple A Orlando.
Originally the Bluebirds decided Abbott would make the Opening Day roster. After stewing on the makeup of the team with Mtume out, GM Matt Rectenwald ultimately reversed his decision and brought Davenport back up to the big league club. This gives the Bluebirds another competent multi-inning reliever while allowing Abbott to continue to be stretched out as a starter with Orlando.

These were the expected moves (links are available on the Transactions log):
Assigned SP Chris Moran from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned SP Juan Ruíz from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned SP Pedro Sánchez to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned SP Román Sánchez to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned RP Robert Moran from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned RP Yu-bao Tong from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned RP Arev Yaghian from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned SS Jesús Rojas from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned LF Toby Peck to Triple A Orlando.
Optioned CF José González to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned RF Aloysius Gonzaga from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
Assigned RF Jean-Luc Lacaze from Spring Training camp to Triple A Orlando.
