A Flock of Bluebirds 2042.3- Checking The Locks: Infielders

Hat tip to Edmonton's Chris Robillard who introduced this awesome format.

Sure Fire Locks (5):
1B: Ernesto Souza
2B: Jesus Yan
3B: Tony Frost
SS: Francisco Otero
SS: J.J. McQuade

This is the primary starting infield. Souza is likely to play more regularly against both hands of pitchers this year after performing admirably against lefties in a small sample size last season. Yan will play second base against RHP, likely to platoon with Delage. Frost is the everyday third baseman and this should be a breakout year for the second year Bluebird. Otero and McQuade form a formidable platoon as shortstop.

Near Locks (1):
2B/3B: Jerome Delage
Delage redeemed himself in the latter months of the season and figures to be the short half of the second base platoon this year again.

Trying To Break In (2):
3B/1B: Javier Bultron
IF/OF: Robert Franklin
Could the Bluebirds carry just six infielders? Absolutely. Bultron probably has the best shot of cracking the roster where he can be a bench bat and spell Souza at first base against lefties at times. Franklin is probably the most versatile position player in camp, but his defensive excellence does not come with much pop at the plate.

Breaking In The Back Door (NRI) (3):
3B/2B: Sam Wade
SS: Jesus Rojas
3B/1B: Takafumi Fujita
Wade was outrighted to AAA after being waived and unclaimed this winter. He's still probably the best option for a seventh infielder but with him now in AAA an injury would have to take place to get him back to the packed 40-man roster. Rojas is in camp as an extra body, and the Bluebirds wanted to take a quick peek at the semi-intriguing Fujita.
