Nashville made the playoffs in their second season under the direction of GM Matt Rectenwald. That in itself was a major accomplishment for a long dormant franchise, however, the club has made it clear they will not rest on their laurels going into the 2042 season.
The Bluebirds have been in on several notable free agents in the middle tier, not wanting to spend big dollars to improve the team, instead looking for undervalued players. On December 14th, 2041 Nashville struck a deal with Edris Mtume on a two year deal worth a total of $7,440,000.
Mtume famously led the Brewster with 29 wins with the Las Vegas Hustlers last year, tied for second in BBA history, despite not starting a single game. Las Vegas used him as a multi-inning workhorse reliever, a role that Nashville figures to use him in this season.
"We feel Edris will improve in our park as opposed to Las Vegas," GM Rectenwald said. "At this point the plan for Edris is to serve in the stopper role, pitching in high-leverage, multi-inning situations as much as we can use him."
The move shores up the bullpen in the middle to late innings. Rectenwald also stated "We still have pieces that will be added to the pitching staff. Closer is still in play, and there are a number of arms we're looking at as possible starters and/or long relievers."
