Title Captured - Granville League Southern Won by Orlando
Thursday, August 29th, 2041

For a team that has never won a The Big One, capturing the Granville League Southern is a good start.

That's the situation the Orlando Oranges find themselves in as their division title today became official.

"We might not have a lot of championship experience as a franchise, but when push comes to shove, I believe in these guys," said reliever Vito Reyes. "We want to be that team to bring the title home to Orlando."

Team manager Gilberto Pacheco said it won't be easy to capture the The Big One, but noted that "nothing worth doing ever is."

The Triple A affiliate of the Nashville Bluebirds has been on fire all year, and now that the BBA rosters have expanded to 40 there is a question of how the Orlando playoff run will affect September callups to the big club. "We are definitely keeping Orlando's run in mind in choosing the callups," said Nashville GM Matt Rectenwald. "Winning the Rupert Horn title is a big accomplishment and we certainly don't want to hinder it, but I think everyone in the organization is on board with the fact that the Bluebirds have a shot at history, too."

With that in mind these are the likely call-ups, at least at the beginning of September:

Gerald Abbott (LHP)- Expect Abbott to rejoin the Bluebirds' bullpen down the stretch. "He may even get a spot start, we'll see," said Rectenwald.

Javier Bultron (3B/1B)- Bultron will be needed as another solid option against left-handed pitching. "The way he's hit this year with Orlando, we're going to find places for him to play," said Rectenwald.

Sam Wade (IF)- Wade was just finishing up a rehab assignment this week with Orlando. "Losing him shouldn't hurt too much considering he's only been there for a week," joked Rectenwald.

Jesus Gonzalez (OF)- "He can bring us a lot of value as a defensive replacement and pinch runner," said Rectenwald.

Stephen Lord (RF/LF)- Lord was sent back to AAA this past week despite his awesome performance at the big league level, but the stay will be brief as expected. "It wasn't anything Stephen did, we just needed roster flexibility for a week," explained Rectenwald.

Nacho Mendez (OF/CI)- Mendez will return to a role, like Bultron, that involves matching up best against left-handed pitching. "Nacho can hit a little, and we'll have a use for him this month," said Rectenwald.

The Bluebirds also expect to bring up a third catcher, however there' are a couple of issues with that staple of September roster expansion. First, they don't have a catcher on their full 40 man roster currently outside of the two already on the Nashville squad. Secondly, the player most likely to have earned the callup (Jesus Ayala) is injured. That means the likely callup is last years Nashville backup catcher Teegan Nyland, though the question remains of how they will clear a 40-man slot for him.

Correction: Abbott got placed on the 60-day DL today.

This cleared space for both Hyun-sik Chang and Mario Deortez to re-join the roster.
