The Goat Rope 2039.7

Post by GoldenOne » Sat Aug 31, 2019 5:31 pm

Well, the Goats finished at 81-81. That's the most wins for the team since the 2025 season when they went 82-81 and made the playoffs. While the Goats had been playing pretty well since the All Star break, their one big trade deadline deal seemed to give them that final push, and final hope, at making the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Let's see how their acquisitions adjusted to life in Nashville.

Joey 'The Dart' Newhouse is not a defensive wizard at 3B. His acquisition was somewhat surprising considering that the Goats surge this year was largely based on outstanding defense. Newhouse, however, fit right in to the Goats in the other area they excelled at - he can easily turn a single into a double or even a triple in the blink of an eye. Newhouse, in his still fairly short career, has hit .299/.369/.493. In his 34 games with the Goats (125 ABs), he managed to eek out a .319/.395/.526 slash line. Add in his 14 SBs (2 CS), and his 7 doubles and 3 triples - well, Newhouse seems to like Nashville and the Goats are poised to enjoy their new leadoff hitter for quite some time as Newhouse is only just now entering his arbitration years.

The other Goats acquisition, that is also only just now entering his arbitration years, is Closer, Lorenzo de' Medici. Medici is already a Fan Favorite in Nashville and his performance since arriving is certainly part of the reason. In his 15 games pitched, 24.1 innings, since his arrival in Nashville, Medici has all but made a mockery of his opponents. His stats line - 7 saves, 1 win, 35 Ks, 4 BBs, ERA of 0.00 (ERA+ of 999) (yes, you read that right), and his WHIP of 0.58, well, yeah, he was good. Okay, he was dominant. The Goats used Medici for the 2-inning close fairly frequently. Next season, Nashville's opponents can only hope that the team's new GM wont let that happen.

Call me crazy, but I’m guessing the new GM will make use of his dominating closer ...
