A Flock of Bluebirds 2039.1- SPECIAL EDITION
July 21, 2039
The city of Nashville is abuzz with the news that Las Vegas Hustlers GM Matt Rectenwald will be taking control of the franchise at the end of this season. Rectenwald brings a legacy of unparalled success to a franchise which hasn't seen much success of late. In fact, they haven't even made the playoffs since way back in 2025 when they were the Halifax Hawks, and their last Landis title came in 2017 when they were run by current Edmonton GM Chris Robillard.
If the addition of Rectenwald as Executive of Baseball Operations wasn't enough to energize the fan base, his next announcement certainly should ramp it up.
"I'm proud to be joining a franchise with a rich tradition, which unfortunately has been largely forgotten," Rectenwald said. "Way back in the 1970's and early 1980's this franchise was the elite team of the decade as the Washington Bobwhites, winning three Landis titles in seven years. After falling on hard times in the 2000's the franchise ultimately had to be moved and became the Halifax Hawks, where under the direction of Chris Robillard they made it to three Landis Series, winning a title in 2017. The cycle then repeated itself, as the franchise sunk into a cycle of losing and lack of fan interest, until ultimately Ben Teague took over the franchise and moved them here to Nashville in 2033. His time would be short, lasting just that one season. Your current GM, Brett Golden took over in 2034 with the promise of 'The Plan'. Unfortunately, as you know, Nashville has yet to have a winning season. In fact, the franchise is now mired in a dreadful stretch of thirteen straight losing seasons in a row. This must change."
Rectenwald continued, after a dramatic pause. "We are not going to repeat this cycle. I want to assure all of the Nashville fans that we will not be leaving town. We do however need to change the culture of losing here. With that, I am pleased to announce that we are re-branding the team. As of the 2040 season, when I join the club, the team will be reborn as the Nashville Bluebirds. This name not only honors the musical tradition of Nashville, but also pays homage to the original Bobwhites nickname with the state bird of Tennessee."

LOVE IT. Now that's how you roll out a new team identity, uni and logo set!
Visiting the Blue Bird Cafe was pretty darn cool when I traveled to Nashville for work last year.
