Shenani-Goats 2034.05

Post by GoldenOne » Fri Mar 30, 2018 9:46 am

As the fates generally have it....the Nashville Goats faced off against the Jacksonville Hurricanes just two days after the deal that sent their 23yo Closer, Peter Grady to Jacksonville for 21yo Fernando Ortiz, 19yo CF Raul Gasco, and 20yo Volodya Shperling.

Both Grady and Ortiz made it into two of the three games of the series. The results....?
- Grady: 3 innings, 38 pitches, 1 ER, 4 hits, 3 Ks, 1 BB, 1 Save, 1 Blown Save
- Ortiz: 2 innings, 54 pitches, 2 ER, 4 hits (1 HR), 3 Ks, 1 BB, 1 Loss

The edge here obviously goes to Grady but the Undrafted Rookie Ortiz showed well in his first two major league appearances to give the Nashville fans some hope for the future.

As for Gasco and Shperling:
- Gasco: Promoted to AA, 4 Games, .231/.286/.615 (1 triple, 1 HR), 5 RBI, 3Ks, 1 BB
- Shperling: 1 Game (GS), 3.2 innings, 83 pitches, 8 hits (2 HRs), 7 runs, 7 ER, 2 Ks, 5 BBs, 1 WP, 1 Loss

If you can heavily favor R/L split in your strategy, Ortiz will be a very handy reliever. As long as Grady has a sub-3.50 FIP, I'll be happy with the move.
