Halifax Chronicle Herald - Farm Report

Post by jcrmoon42 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 11:45 pm

You'd think a team with six straight losing records would have a better farm system. According to OSA, their system ranks 21st in baseball with no prospect higher than 49th on the list. Well, let's see if there is anything good down there anyway.

SP Guillermo Martinez - Discovered out of Colombia in 2026, Martinez didn't pitch professionally for another 3 years but worked his way through the Halifax system in two years. He struggled in his rookie season that was prematurely ended by a ruptured finger tendon, but the future is bright for the skinny righty.

RP Peter Grady - This guy's been in the system since 2028 and hasn't made it above A ball. After an excellent season in A ball in 2031, and still only 20 years old, Grady will most certainly start out next year in AA, and the club is hoping his 10-7-7 ratings will make him a bright point in the Halifax pen in a couple years.

RP Felipe "Prowler" Carlos - Nobody wants to ask the 16 year old Carlos how he got his nickname. You really don't want to know. The 12th overall pick of the 2031 draft, Carlos has a very long way to go to get the big leagues, but he pitched well in Rookie level Shreveport last year.

SS Luis "Pendragon" Gonzalez - A late-season callup, the 21 year old Gonzalez did not embarrass himself with an 85 OPS+ and passable defense. Discovered out of Guatemala in 2028, Pendragon has a shot at a future batting championship and should be able to stick at any infield position the team needs.

SP Stephen Clulow - Some may see Clulow as the prize of the Hawks system, and his 100 MPH fastball would agree. Brought over from Vancouver in the controversial Louis Hall deal, Clulow has yet to put it all together, but he is only 19 years old. The young Englishman is already in AA ball and will probably start the season there.

CF Garth Hickey - OSA sees Hickey as the second best prospect in the Hawks system, and who are we to argue? Only 20 years old and already in AAA, he put up respectable numbers last year both in the field and at the plate. He will be back in Montgomery this year as he still has work to do, but he should at the very least be as solid big league contributor soon.

I really Like Gonzales. I could really use a developed version of him right now.
