Halifax Chronicle Herald - Pitching Report

Post by jcrmoon42 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 11:28 pm

Here was the worst pitching staff in all of baseball. So, finding high points might be a challenge. Let's give it a try.

Sancho Delgado - The flame throwing Delgado continued to be the Hawks ace, but they missed him for nearly three months to injury. He still led the club's hurlers with a 3.3 WAR, but his 1.42 WHIP was the worst of his career. Still under control for two years at a reasonable salary, he will be the subject of trade discussions in the off season.

Lee McHone - The popular lefty with the big stuff came to Halifax in a 2027 trade that sent Cisco Guerrero to Montreal. While the club would certainly love to have Nightmare in the batting order, McHone is coming into his own. Perhaps rushed to the majors this year before his control has caught up to his stuff, he led all of baseball with 135 walks, but also led all of baseball with a .307 opponents' SLG. That figure topped the second place starter by 26 points. Striking out more than a batter an inning, if McHone can get his pitches in the strike zone, he's going to be a good one.

Armando Figueroa - This young righty reliever is just about the only other high point on the roster. He put his excellent stuff and control to work, posting a 2.91 ERA on the season. Unfortunately, his lower movement may not bode well for consistently pitching that well in the future.

I sure hope McHone gets those last two points of control, but it's looking iffy at this point. If he does, he's an above average mid rotation guy.
