As we approach the All Star break, the season has seen its ups and downs to this point in Halifax. Pre-season predictions varied from bottom of the barrel to mediocre, and the latter has been more the case thus far. The team started off with an above-.500 April but are 20-27 since then. Thankfully, that 35-40 record puts the Hawks only three games out in the Wild Card race and thinking they may actually have a shot.
The team has been driven by its offense, the third-highest scoring in the JL. They have been led by 25-year old center fielder Dominic "Legacy" Wyatt. In only his third full big league season, the Australian scout find is fourth in the JL in homers with 22 and has put up a stunning 176 OPS+. Joining him among the league leaders is slugging first baseman Stelio Kontos. The big Greek hitter is in his second full season with the Hawks after coming over in a big trade with Vancouver after the 2028 season. He finds himself among the league leaders in average, runs, total bases, hits, extra base hits and OPS. As a team, the Hawks are tied for first with 103 homers and leads the JL in OPS.
Sancho Delgado leads the rotation as expected with a 2.98 ERA, a nearly 4:1 K:BB ratio, and 7 wins. Veteran Bulldog Lewis has also pitched well but doesn't have the results. He has a 4.09 FIP and a 5.29 ERA, explaining some of his struggles.
