Hawks Nest, v28.7 - Say it ain't so Bo!

Post by trmmilwwi » Wed Nov 09, 2016 6:42 am

Halifax Hawks 1B Bo Jordan needs no introduction. He has won 3 Sawyer Silk awards in his career and was voted 2nd 4 times. He is a 10 time allstar player who will surely be a first ballot hall of famer due to his counting stats alone. He has 547 career homers, good for 10th all time on the career leaderboard list. He has 1,500 RBI’s in his career, 24th on the career leader list. His career batting average is a decent .286 and his career OPS is a staggering .917.

So you may ask why is this coming up in a team news.

.177/5/37.

That’s an ugly stat line by anyone but by a future hall of famer is staggering. In short, Bo is done. The 36 year old 15 year veteran ended the season with 5/8/6/8/4 actual ratings. In his peak he had 8/10/10/9/6 ratings. An epic drop from stardom no doubt.

Jordan has a player option on a $19.5 season, the last on a 9 year, $137M contract he signed in 2020. It is unknown what his decision will be but the team assumes he will opt to play for the Hawks in 2029 for the huge payday.

Ouch. A hard fall this season. He used to hit 5 homers in a series.
Phoenix Talons, 1987-1994 (614-682, .474). 1993 JL Wildcard Winner.
Atlantic City Gamblers, 2010-2030. 2022 MBWBA Champions. '10, '15, '22, '23, '25, '28 FLA Champions. 2010, 2024 FL Cartwright Cup Winners.

That's a tough decision to make. Do you eat the $19.5 million to save cap space or let him ride out the season on the bench? I'd probably choose the later since you are rebuilding. Also he is so popular that fan interest might crash if he is let go. Just keep him on the team as a special attraction. You could even do a TN series about his retirement tour(ie Derek Jeter/David Ortiz).
