The Hawks are coming off of a disastrous 66-96 season in 2028. Everyone knows that changes need to be made but where will the team start? The team has 3 key free agents who will be entering free agency this offseason. They are as follows;
SP Domingo Hernandez – 6/7/9 31 year old righty with 7/7/5 pitches.
Hernandez was a middle of the rotation starter for the Hawks and is coming off of a 6-16 season where he posted a 5.60 ERA. The Hawks signed the 10 year veteran to a 1 year deal worth $4m this past offseason and were hoping that he could put together a decent season. That never happened and the career 63-95 pitcher did not work out. It is likely that the Hawks will not try to pursue him during free agency.
RP Fernando “Huck” Rivera – 10/6/6 29 year old righty with 10/9/1 pitches.
Rivera was a key member of the Hawks bullpen in ’28 and ended the year with a 2-2 record with 2 saves and a 3.72 ERA. He has played his entire career with Halifax and has appeared in 514 games and has posted a 28-33 record with 103 saves and a 3.67 ERA. The Hawks are thought to like the veteran relief pitcher and may make an offer during free agency to bring him back into the fold.
C Juan Jose Torres – 5/7/6/4/5 33 year old backup catcher.
Torres was used in spot starting duty for the last 7 seasons and was an even/plus WAR type player. He maxed out at 147 AB’s in ’22 and had 77 AB’s with a .247/3/14 stat line last season. It is unlikely that the Hawks go after signing the veteran when free agency opens.
SP Alfredo Salazar – 7/5/7 30 year old lefty with 8/7/6 pitches.
Salazar ended the ’28 season with a 12-13 record with a 4.77 ERA. In 3 seasons with the Hawks he compiled a 24-23 record. He has a career record of 76-53 with a 4.02 ERA. It is likely that the team may pursue the free agent lefty once the signing period opens up.
