Hawks Nest, v28.4 - New King of K?!

Post by trmmilwwi » Mon Nov 07, 2016 8:05 am

Hawk CF’er Domenic “Legacy” Wyatt is certainly living up to his nickname, and not in a good way. The 23 year old Australian just completed his 2nd big league season and has shown that he is a great defender in centerfield. It could be his legacy to have a string of gold glove seasons to his name over the next few years. Or… more likely, it will be his legacy that he will become the Monty’s most prolific strikeout king at the plate.

Over the span of 3 seasons since he first arrived with the Hawks Wyatt has struck out 345 times in 892 atbats, a 38.6% clip. Obviously his ridiculously low 2 vs L and 3 vs R Avoid K’s rating is to blame. With his stats so far it can probably be assumed that his overall Avoid K’s rating of 3 is on the very low 3’s side and that his 3 vs R’s is similarly low.

The Monty strikeout king with the most strikeouts is SS George Bellairs who played from ’95 through ’13 for 6 different ballclubs. Similarly to Wyatt Bellairs possessed superb defense and was a star fielder at 2B and SS throughout his career. His season high for strikeouts was 206 in 2010 for Washington. Funny how there is a connection to the Halifax franchise for both players. Bellairs percentage is just 31.6% however (2,793/8,829).

In terms of percentage the king appears to be SS Pepper Brooks who had a 32.9% rate (2,089 K’s in 6,345 AB’s) followed by C John “Bunny” Behnke who had a 32.4% rate (2,160 K’s in 6,657 AB’s).

Should Wyatt continue at his current clip, and there is no reason to suggest that his Avoid K’s potential hasn’t been reached, then he will certainly challenge the percentage record for strikeouts. Depending on how his fielding is maintained will certainly affect whether or not he has a shot at the cumulative record.

Madison has Rupert Grant who after 2+ seasons is at 33.7%. But he hit 38 homeruns and drove in 99 RBI so I'm fine with it.

Speaking of which, he's on the trade block. Ignore the K's!! haha
