CENTERFIELD
SURE FIRE LOCKS: Pierre “Frenchy” Cardona
HOPEFULS: Domenic “Legacy” Wyatt
LONG SHOTS:
Analysis:
Cardona was the Hawks’ 1st round pick in last years’ amateur draft, 14th overall, quickly made his way to the big league team. He spent 69 games in AAA Montgomery where he proved he could get on base by putting up a +.300 average. H was called up the big league squad in July and had 2 great months before injuring his ankle and being shelved for the remainder of the season. Frenchy has great speed and above average defense. He also has the ability to get on base and should have a better eye once he develops a bit more. He is a prototypical leadoff guy that I could see playing for the Hawks for the next 10 years.
Wyatt is another young up and coming centerfielder and just happens to be the same age as Frenchy (21). He has the possibility of huge power at the plate and gets on base like a mad man. His contact and avoid K’s ratings are on the low side so he is likely destined to be an all or nothing player at the plate. With above average speed he could be a 40/40 guy in the outfield. Likely in right unfortunately.

I like Frenchy. He's more of a #2 to me, but if the eye develops he could be a good #2 hitter. Looks kinda like Kidd
Another team that Romero would have fit well on. Could have been a good backup CF in case of emergency for the Hawks. I'm glad to have him in the organization still, but he's probably not happy to be sandwiched between Kidd/Escarceja and Chavez

Yea, I need some utility/backup types for my "in case of emergency break glass" moments. Also need to start building up the farm train.

Why in RF? With that range and arm, he's probably a better CF than Frenchy. You could go Frenchy in left, Wyatt in center, and Hack in right (in a few years as Wyatt isn't ready just yet)trmmilwwi wrote: Wyatt is another young up and coming centerfielder and just happens to be the same age as Frenchy (21). That may be a possibility... Cardona would lose a few season's worth of play in LF waiting for Wyatt to arrive but long term it may be best.

Cardona will be a league average CF--which is still valuable. Wyatt is probably the better fielder assuming the range holds. But Cardona can probably pick up his max LF ratings in a spring training or two if he were managed that way.

The longer term problem is that I'm not yet convinced that Wyatt will be able to carry a full load offensively. That low CONTACT is worrisome ... but he's young. A bump here or there and a lot changes.
