Ellis was brought in at the beginning of last season to shore up the starting rotation here in Washington. The last GM really blew it when signing the aging, erratic pitcher to a two-year deal worth $8 million.
Ellis’ first season with the Bobwhites was a disaster. Ellis finished the season with a 5.97 ERA, and during mid-season he was put on waivers with no takers.
It is all but certain that Ellis has pitched his last pitch. Don’t be surprised if the league batting average is lower next year with Ellis watching the games from home.
