Bluebirds Clinging onto Playoffs

The Bluebirds entered the 2053 season as favorites to win the Heartland division. Afterall, they won 102 games in 2052 and won the division for the fourth consecutive year and were bringing back almost the entire same roster, so why wouldn’t they be considered the favorites? However, the emergence of the Omaha Cyclones and Des Moines Kernels has seen Nashville slide down the standings and desperately trying to hang onto a wildcard spot. With just 8 games remaining, Nashville currently holds the third wildcard spot by one game with the Portland Lumberjacks and Loserville Sluggers hot on their heels battling for the final spot.

“We obviously know we’re capable of playing better than this,” said Bluebirds ace Barney Lindsay. “Frankly, with the way we’ve played this season, we probably don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. We’re starting to pick it up, though, and know if we take this hot streak into the playoffs, anything is possible.”

Nashville spent most of the season with their heads just above water and even had a losing 13-14 record in June, however, they have won 10 of their past 13 games in September. Two of those losses were in the band box in Omaha and the teams meet in their final regular season game this evening. After that, Nashville returns home to finish the season versus the Chicago Black Sox and Madison Wolves. The two teams will surely look to play spoiler with the large bounty hovering over the Bluebirds.

Much of the latest performance boost can be attributed to Felipe Vega, who was acquired prior to the trade deadline. In just 16 games with the Bluebirds, Vega is slashing .333/.440/.857, including clutch hits like a go-ahead grand slam vs the Sluggers last week that helped propel the team to a much needed victory. He has 8 HR in his short stint as the Bluebirds LF and was awarded Frick League Player of the Week to begin the month when he batted .562 with 4 HR and 11 RBI.

Will the Bluebirds be able to hold off the competition for another shot at a title? Help pack Les Paul Field this week and find out in person!

This kind of drama is why we play this fictional game. I wish you good luck. As long as "Loserville" lives to play another day of course.

I see a Game 163 coming. I just hope it’s between Loserville and Portland.

Really don’t want to be involved in that game. Hope to clinch a spot today.

I refuse to play against you in the playoffs. I already know the outcome.

I'd very much like not to play you, as well. Good thing I have two of my #heartland henchmen that have a shot to take you out first. Go Kernels and Sluggers (puke)!
