I Have No Creative Title 96.2 - April Review

Post by Afino » Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:09 pm

The team’s pitching staff, ravaged by injuries, struggled through April, and so with it did the team. A 15-12 April record was only good for 3rd place in the Atlantic. Obviously, that’s disappointing. But, it’s only one month. Let’s see how we did for the month.

Can’t really find anything “wrong” until we get to the pitching. Well, the BABIP isn’t helping things, but that doesn’t really matter when you’re giving up walks and homers. The bullpen, save for Hass is really a disaster. Garza has given up 15 runs in 3.2 IP? REALLY? I’ve already chronicled the fall of Daniels, and now he has an injury that will keep him out basically for the rest of the year. Wonderful. Only Nastay is holding up in the rotation. Think we can get help? Think again. There’s nothing ready in the minors. There’s no cap space.

At least the offense is producing. Papi Smurf has 11 HR and 35 RBI to go with a 1.083 OPS. Ice has a .938 OPS and 12 steals. Sobah is hitting .337. The surprise here is Blankenship. I plugged him in more for defense in the outfield, but he has compiled a respectable .788 OPS (.374 OBP) and has 17 SB. Not bad at all.

Only sore spot is our catching situation. Oh well, I knew that was going to happen. Sucks to punt a lineup spot though. Long story short – we need the pitching to….pitch well.

SObah is such a nice middle infield option. Nice contact, geray eye and good defense.
