Slugger Shavings 2055.6 - A Season To Forget

Post by RT60 » Mon Jul 31, 2023 8:49 pm

The season was effectively over in May for Louisville. High hopes at the start were quickly dashed. This was a team that had made the playoffs the last two seasons under GM BP. It also was a team that made the playoffs in 12 of the last 16 seasons. It was used to winning. Instead, 2055 witnessed Louisville put up their worst record and fan attendance numbers since 2038.

When pressed, neither the front office nor the players could identify what was wrong. The mood in the clubhouse was constantly ecstatic with everyone getting along with manager Chris Hooper. More than one anonymous source claimed that some in the front office were not happy with Hooper's player-friendly style, but that same style won 94 games with mostly the same players.

Certainly, having stars like Semei Kwakou, Taylor Michaels, and Mal Fountain struggle offensively for most of the season did not help. Neither did Antonio Baldez's 18 losses (and this was supposed to be the team's ace!).

Collectively, it was simply a shite-show. But there were some positives. Jeffrey Smith had another fantastic season, winning player of the month for September. Greg Shaw had another good season winning 12 games and clearly taking his rightful place as ace of the rotation (kind of easy when you have the only winning record). And Khayyat Isa exploded out of nowhere taking over CF from the venerated Amphibian Johnson. It looks like GM BP might need to make some hard decisions in the outfield for next season.

it's obviously something good teams deal with too but man an underperforming key piece really kills you if you have too few key pieces.
