Slugger Shavings 2054.2 - A New Hope

The 2054 season for the Sluggers has started as expected. 10-9 in a crowded Heartland, largely due to timely home runs. The starting pitching has simply been bad with a 5.57 ERA, good for 14th in the league. The loss of Yoshii Takuda for the entire season was huge, as he was one of the team's best pitchers last season with a 15-8 record, getting back to form after a disastrous 4-11 record in 2052. His injury forced an early call-up of prospect George MacFadden, his first. He was promptly sent down after going 0-2 with a 13.50 in 4 games. He has now been replaced by Alberto Romero, a minor league journeyman whose only big-league experience was 10 games with YS9 in 2048. Fans hope Romero can at least hold serve.
While the Sluggers' bottom of the rotation does their best, the buzz throughout the organization is about the reinforcements cooking down on the farm that could change the face and fortunes of the club significantly in 2-3 years. GM BP has consciously made an effort to acquire quality pitching prospects, and as a result of those efforts, the Sluggers have a number of starting pitching prospects that could change the game. "We love all our prospects of course, but Martin, Burns, and Prefect are special. We can't wait to see what they can do when they are ready," said GM BP.
GM BP is of course referring to Callum Martin, Darrel Burns, and Ford Prefect. Martin was acquired from Nashville in the offseason, and is currently the #9 prospect in the BBA. Burns was Louisville's first-round draft pick in the 2049 draft, and is currently the #28 prospect in the BBA. Prefect was acquired from Brooklyn during the offseason, and was the first overall pick in the 2053 draft. He is currently the #35 prospect in the BBA. All are currently projected to be #1 starters.
Early days admittedly, and so much can happen. But the future should be brighter on the mound in Louisville as long as the players stay off roofs and avoid Motel 6's.
