LOU is off to their best start in GM Shaw's reign, and while the "usual suspects" are leading the way, a few under-the-radar players are providing key contributions.
First, we have 1B/2B Jorge Morán. Moran is projected to 3.3 WAR on a minimum salary, with a 123 OPS+ offsetting some average defense at 2B (he plays an outstanding 10-rated 1B vs LHP).
LOU drafted Moran in the 19th round in 2039, and it's been a meteoric rise from those 4/6/6 ratings to his current 6/9/6 ratings. GM Shaw takes full credit, and is happy to have him under team control through 2047.
Second, we have C Calvin Johnson. This 3rd round pick from 2039 (seems like a good year) is finally breaking out. While the RHB isn't hitting LHP, he is killing RHP since being moved off the platoon. He has a 153 OPS+ in 23 games so far vs RHP, and a 122 OPS+ and 1.1 WAR so far overall.
Most impressively, though, is his 3.00 cERA. His 9 cABility is key to LOU's staff.
Third and finally, we have former Aviator RP Juan 'Mayday' Pinto. On the surface, Pinto might be a strange choice, as he has a 4.37 ERA and 4.02 FIP. However, this 80-rated super talent has been a backbone of LOU's 12-game win streak. He has yet to give up a run in May, going 13.2 scoreless innings with a 13.8 K/9 and no HR allowed.
GM Shaw hopes this is Pinto finally coming into his talent.
