Louisville stunned the BBA world today, signing RF Alfredo Martínez to a massive 4-year, $131,200,000 deal. The deal is for $31.3M this season, with an opt-out, then $25.3M, then two vesting years at $37.3M requiring 145 games played.
Martinez, speaking while being fitted for a full-body cast after his latest injury, suffered while spreading mayo on a sandwich, was sanguine about the deal. "Look, I'm no dummy, I've been around the BBA for a while. I'm comp pick chum and I'll never see years 3 and 4 on this deal. In fact, my German logic will cause me to opt-out after this year. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. But at least I'll get paid this season and then be free to get injured for somebody else next season."
"We're playing with house money," said GM sjshaw. "Even with this deal, we're still on pace for over $10M in profit. We just hope Fredo (he loves that nickname) will hit the shit out of the ball as our DH and generally stay away from activities where he is likely to injure himself. Like walking, eating, and breathing."
