GM sjshaw left all 17 Slugger fans scratching their heads today as RP Andy 'Duck' Cantrell became the first free agent signed during his tenure.
"This guy is washed," said superfan Phillip McCracken, "I mean, he's 35, hurts himself tying his shoes, and now he's making $5,520,000 over the next two years? If this is what I can expect from the new administration, I will definitely not regret never purchasing season tickets."
The deal is actually for $2.26M in the first year, with the $3.26m second year based on a vesting option that requires 100 IP.
"Look, I'm not a dumbass. I know he's washed, just like I know 'Phillip McCracken' is a fake name," said sjshaw. "That's why we protect ourselves with the option year. Also, if 'Phillip' had bothered to check, he'd see that Cantrell is a shutdown LOOGY. We hope to get him a lot of high-leverage innings to pump up his trade value to a contender."
Sources inside Slugger HQ claim that several more surprise signings are in the offing....

Duck is a great fit for your park. I wouldn't even hesitate in giving him home spot starts against lefty heavy lineups.

Luckily, the LHB HR was adjusted to a legal 1.200. But the point is still a good one.
