Sim 15 review
After the All-Star game the Sluggers started the second half of the season much as the first half had gone, on or around .500. Sean Maguire was Louisville’s only All-Star participant, he had a first innings single but it went downhill from there, a strikeout in his only other AB and made the Johnson League’s only error. Sluggers had gone into the ASG break with a two-game winning streak at Atlantic City but came out of it with a two-game losing streak at Long Beach. A 6-2 win in the first game of a two-game series with Long Beach back at Waterfront Park snapped that. So it’s 43-45 before the ASG and 1-2 after it so far. Three main downfalls so far, 17-31 on the road, 9-20 in one-run games and 3-7 in extra innings games. Not a recipe for success if you can’t hold the close games, hopefully with Carlos Rosa & Lando Klomp being a bit more composed as the season wore on they can help Louisville turn some of those close losses into victories. In all honesty it would take a great effort from all departments to make any substantial impression on the standings.
Javier Tavarez, the latest Louisville player to get a cup of coffee
Brian Clough didn’t have the best of second half starts, 0-9 in his three games with just one RBI, three walks and three K’s. George V Anderson is now getting some AB’s at DH against Lefties as Clough is hitting just .192 against them. Another move is that Javier Tavarez has been called up from Triple-A Missouri and the underused Scott Martin has been sent down to make room for him. Tavarez will mainly be a defensive replacement, having got into three games so far he has two strikeouts in three AB’s. Desiderius Krirshbaum managed five hits in his three games, one went for a triple and two went for solo homers to give him his only RBI of the sim. Calvin Clohessy now platooning at centre against LHP also hit two homers but got a return of seven RBI for the week.
Doug Clement won his only start of the sim, allowing seven hits over seven innings but just three runs while Carlos Rosa had a good week, got into three games, pitched 4.1 innings and only allowed a homer for a 0.23 WHIP. Lando Klomp was the backend guy lit up instead, five walks in 1.1 innings didn’t help his case though, but he did well to only allow one run.
