Slugger Shavings 2054.6 - 94 Wins!

Post by RT60 » Mon May 08, 2023 8:09 pm

The Sluggers fanbase thought they would be more upset by the team’s choke against Twin Cities in the opening round of the playoffs. The team had seven more wins than the River Monsters in the regular season and was favored to win. Up 2-0 in the series, the Sluggers then lost three in a row, including a game 4 where prospect Callum Martin pitched a 4-hit gem. But everyone knew the team was playing with house money since no-one would have expected the 94 wins the team achieved. 94 wins! They simply over-achieved and had to come down to Earth sometime.

Perhaps what is also helping the fanbase cope with the choke is the excitement about next season. It is now clear that Callum Martin will start the season in Louisville next year after his amazing performance in his single playoff game (his first BBA game ever). That likely means the end of Armando Castro’s tenure with the team. Although winning 14 games in his first year after signing as a free agent, his 5.47 ERA and league-leading 38 home runs given up were not acceptable. It is very likely the team will choose to exercise its option to opt-out of Castro’s contract in the off-season, saving a cool 3.2M of cap space.

Martin would join returning starters Antonio Baldez, Greg Shaw, Yoshii Takuda, and Tim Gibbs, in what should be a solid rotation and one that improves on the starters’ collective 5.11 ERA, good for a woeful 13th place in the league.

The fans are also excited about what hopefully will be a continuation of their offensive fireworks. Semei Kwakou became the team’s all-time hits leader during the season (currently 3123 and growing), and Luis Mendoza, Jeffrey Smith, and all other starters should return.

Is it April yet?
