Blowing in the Wind 2054.1: Weiner Takes Over In Jacksonville
Well, that was a short retirement. Aaron Weiner, formerly GM of the Birmingham Bandits (now San Antonio Outlaws), Carolina Kraken, Rockville Pikemen and Des Moines Kernels, has taken over the reins in Northeast Florida, signing on to GM the Jacksonville Hurricanes, announcing at a press conference earlier today. The long-standing GM and former Vice Commissioner and league prognosticator reportedly is taking on none of his previous responsibility and appears to be here to just be one of thirty-two GMs.
"I know that there's a lot of fanfare with me rejoining the league, but like Zaphod Beeblebrox in Hitchhiker's Guide, I'm just a guy, you know? I'm just some guy. I'm here to have fun," said Weiner.
The legendary GM has won three BBA titles, holds or has tied several records for consecutive pennants and playoff appearances, and recently began the process, finished masterfully by Randy Weigand, that finally put the Des Moines franchise back into the playoffs after almost a half-century of futility. He said that the spark to run a franchise was back.
"I'm excited to be back, because this feels like a zero-pressure, high fun thing to do," said Weiner. "It's funny - the last time I rejoined the league, I rejoined with the stipulation that I wouldn't be on the Governing Board, and then I was Vice Commissioner for two decades, and so that didn't work. This time I intend to just sit here, running my team, and write silly things that quote Douglas Adams. So Don't Panic!"
Jacksonville is in reasonable shape after a winning season that saw them outside the playoffs. While they did overachieve, the team has some solid building blocks and some cap space and they have every reason to believe that they have a shot at contention, if that's the direction that Weiner goes. The veteran GM is well renowned for his drafting ability and has been known, in the past, to enact rebuilding programs.
"My team's going to make the usual assessments and figure out what to do next, but it'll happen soon," Weiner said. "This is an exciting, new challenge that should be very enjoyable, especially with no other distractions on the horizon."

Reports are that he has already inquired with Brooklyn about their top prospect, Ford Prefect.

I don't know - I hear Ford Prefect is perfectly ordinary.

Doesn't matter. Did I mention my last team was Des Moines?

That would have been interesting. And a little weird.
Besides, now I've done four franchises. That's pretty cool.
