With the extensions portion of the off-season in the rear-view mirror, it is now time to look at some of the free agent acquisitions that Jacksonville has made for the upcoming 2049 campaign. The first of these free agent signings was a formidable contract with centerfielder Sawyer Slizz.
Sawyer signed the offer that will give him a payday of $73.5M over a six year period. Although he is a few years removed from the Zimmer Award in centerfield, he possesses the glove and the speed that the Canes’ fans are accustomed to from watching former centerfielder Omer Dijkstra. Dijkstra decided to test free agency after rejecting a $15M per year offer from Jacksonville.
Slizz has a combined WAR of 13.2 over the past three seasons compared to Dijkstra’s 9.6. Continuing the comparison shows a slash line for Slizz of .290/.346/.548 while Dijkstra has .289/.317/.496. Home run totals for Slizz is 255 and is 155 for Dijkstra while Slizz has 220 steals compared to Dijkstra’s 153.
“I am anxious to have the opportunity to play in Jacksonville. I have heard a lot about the awesome stadium here with the great atmosphere both on and around the field,” Sawyer was quick to quip.

Stupid Slizz. Glad he’s out the Heartland. That was a rough stint.
