Dugout Dirt 47.05 - Playoff Bound

Post by DugoutDesperado » Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:46 am

Although the Canes were not able to hold off the Charlotte Cougars from claiming the JL Atlantic Division title, Jacksonville did forge their way into the post season for the first time in 7 years with a 93-69 record. AFter taking over the reins and enduring a first season of only racking up 53 wins, the fans are starting to see a few fruits of the labor from the current front office.

The Canes accomplished this by putting together some solid albeit non-spectacular pitching (with maybe the exception of Scott Davis who finished 21-5 prior to going down with a season-ending injury) and closer Jose Castro with his gaudy 42 saves locking down games. The Canes tried to bolster the offensive side of the plate by having a few big bats led by David Simpson and his 43 dingers along with Pancho Costa swiping 72 bases.

The Canes host the New Orleans Crawdads in the series opener at The Station where they have put together a 57-24 record. However, Jose Martinez will be in the opening slot instead of Davis. The Crawdads finished with a record of 89-73 so don't be surprised if this series doesn't go the full five games.
