Dugout Dirt 2044.09 - Canes' April Analysis

Post by DugoutDesperado » Sat Sep 19, 2020 1:57 pm

After the total rebuild grenade was tossed at the end of the 2042 season and the rookie campaign for many in the 2043 season, the Cane-Nation faithful were looking for some signs pointing toward the future in 2044.

The Canes responded with some varying numbers thus far in the season. The record was a middle of the road 11-15 through 26 games. Although there were no big improvements in the wins column, the fan interest is climbing in anticipation of things to come. The fan interest measured around the league went from 64 in spring training up to 76 at the beginning of May. Average attendance has increased from 22,200 last year up to 39,000 per game this season to date.

Likewise the revenue stream has increased from $100M last year to a projected $114M this year. The increase in attendance and revenue can be resulting from in the Canes’ front office trying to bring in some popular players like Hsin Mei and Kiichi Suzuki along with keeping the likes of Jose Zuniga and Carlos Rodriguez. One wonders how many of these players will be kept if the Canes cannot keep pace with the other teams vying for a playoff spot.

From a statistics perspective, the Canes have improved on batting average (from 13th to 6th at the beginning of May) but they have dropped in ERA with a 4.63 (last in the JL).

The Canes' fans are anxiously awaiting for May to unfold to determine if 2044 is more of the same or a step into a brighter direction.
