The Canes opened up the 2044 season at Fidelity Park with a near capacity crowd of 44,375 in attendance. The home crowd was not disappointed as they left with an 8 to 4 victory.

The Canes opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with all three runs coming off of a bases loaded double by Jose Zuniga. Brooklyn answered by scoring 4 runs in the top of the sixth including a three-run homer by Fernando Cruz.

Another big inning was in store for the Canes’ faithful in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rookie Holden Dickson stroked a two-run single and then Jeremy Pickens put the icing on the cake with a three-run homer.

Pickens went 3 for 4 on the day with 3 RBI and Zuniga added another 3 RBI of his own.

Cristo Munoz (1-0) was credited with the win as he pitched three innings of scoreless relief allowing no hits, walking one and striking out four.

Pierre Legrand (1-0) absorbed the loss allowing 7 runs in 6.2 innings.

The win gives the Canes’ a record of 1-0.
