The Hurricanes beat the Pioneers from Calgary in a pitchers’ duel by a score of 2 to 0.
The Canes scored a run in each of the first two innings and that seemed to be all that it took. The first run was complements of an one-run triple off the bat of Jose Zuniga while the second run was from Raul Valdes’ 6th homer of the season. Valdes went 3 for 4 from the plate on the day as 8 out of the 9 Jacksonville batters recorded a base hit.
Sabir Askeri (6-1) won his sixth straight decision in a row as he held the Pioneers scoreless for 6.2 inning while allowing only three hits. Hector Gonzalez pitched 1.1 innings of perfect relief before Fernando Guerrero locked it down for his 18th save of the season with a perfect 9th inning.
Edwin Gilliam (5-5) was the hard luck loser has he pitched all 8 innings while allowing only 2 runs.
