The Canes started the scoring in the first inning with Jose Nunez’ first homer of the season. However, the big blow came in the bottom of the third via a grand slam from Juan Lopez’ fifth homer of the season.
Carlos Rodriguez (3-0) pitched six innings allowing on run on six hits while striking out eight. Rafael Torres pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Fernando Guerrero recorded his 12th save of the season by getting the last two out in the 9th inning.
Julio Alicea (3-7) absorbed the loss.
The win improves the Canes’ record to 16-21.
