Dugout Dirt 2042.02 - Canes pick up Reece Wareham

In an effort to add depth to the left side of the infield, Jacksonville signed 35 year old Reece Wareham to a $4.8M/1 year deal.

This move adds another solid glove at three different infield positions and a bat with an expected OBP around .350. This rounds out the Jacksonville infield with the following players:

C Mike Schofield – Defensive gem but will be pushing the .200 mark on average and maybe 20 HR’s
1B Jose Zuniga – Anchors the infield offensively with 58HR’s, 145 RBI’s and a .306 batting average.
2B Edgardo Encarnacion – Sidelined last season for 5 months but had a .329 average in the previous season
SS Reece Wareham – Projecting to have 20 HRs along with the aforementioned .350 OBP.
3B Alejandro Rodriguez – Acquired from the Yellow Springs AAA organization. Projecting to hit around .250 with maybe 15 HR’s but possesses a potential gold glove and a rocket arm.

2B Carlos Garcia (.350 OBP), SS Claudio DeFazio (.350 OBP) and C Jason Miller will be worked in and out of the lineup to help keep the starters rested. Manuel Martinez is also a first baseman by trade. He will be penciled into the DH slot with his projected 30 HRs and .390 OBP.
