Tropical Tidbits 34.10 - Pitching Changes

Post by udlb58 » Fri Mar 30, 2018 11:01 am

With the bottom of the rotation and the middle relief continuing to struggle, the Canes have announced a couple of pitching changes for the week ahead. Moving into the rotation will be 25 year old rookie Donald Harris. Harris has dominated out of the pen this year, sporting a 13.4 K/9 and a 55 FIP-. Moving into the bullpen to replace him will be Thomas Crane, who has finished his recovery stint in AAA after a 14 month layoff thanks to surgery on his torn rotator last year. The 24 year old was on fire last year before the injury and Jacksonville is hoping the flamethrowing right-hander can fill the void left by Harris' move to the rotation.

Those moves mean someone will have to lose out, this time it is 22 year old Lorenzo Montalvo. The young reliever has had a poor start to 2034, allowing 5 HR in 25 IP. He'll move down to AAA Gothem to work on his command. Also changing roles will be Ruben Nunez. After a fantastic 1st season as a full-time starer, with a 3.60 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 220 innings (before an injury sidelined him in September), Nunez just hasn't looked the same this year. He's allowed nearly 3 HR/9, totaling 20 HRA in just 62 innings. He will look to recover his command while working out of the pen.

"We are hoping Nunez can regain reasonable form and fill out the #4 starter role down the stretch," said Simmons.
