Tropical Tidbits 33.03 - Party in the 'ville

Cardiac Canes
YELLOW SPRINGS--For the second straight series, the Hurricanes needed 7 games to close the deal. Unlike against the Crawdads in the Cartwright, where the 'Canes fell behind early in the series and stormed back to win in 7, Bertram Hahn took Yellow Springs closer (and former Moonshiner) David Cantu deep for a walk-off win and a 3-0 series lead. With two more home games at Fidelity Financial and the team's two best pitchers in 2033 scheduled to take the mound, it looked like this series was done and dusted. The Nine would have other plans. Yellow Springs stormed back, outscoring Jacksonville 29-11 as they took the series to a decisive 7th game.

The two top offenses exchanged blows early with the lead changing hands 3 times in the first three innings. After an Angel De Castillo single put YS up 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd, the starting pitchers settled in. Crow and LaLoosh blew through 4 scoreless innings with only 3 baserunners allowed between the two. In the top of the 8th, with one on and one out, Yellow Springs turned to 2033 playoff ace Rick Ward to face off against righty slugger Bertram Hahn. With victory in sight, seemingly all of Yellow Springs were cheering on their Nine, but the 30 year old German silenced the crowd when he deposited a 2 strike pitch into the left-center bleachers.

Lloyd Braun tossed to Edgardo Pagan for the final out, clinching the team's second title in three years and setting off a party that would last through the night.
