For the 4th time in 5 seasons, the 'Canes find themselves (improbably) in the Doubleday Series after taking down the upstart Sugar Kings in four games. The 'Canes rode The CoreTM to 7 runs per game with Rutledge/Noboru/Hahn/Chavez/Braun combining for 17 RBI and 18 R. The pitching was also supurb, with just 6 runs allowed in the 3 wins (7 in the loss).
Player of the Series - Norris Rutledge: 3 hits, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R, 1.400 OPS

Thirteen seasons in this league and I've never had a hitter ever close to Rutledge (unless you want to count the half season of Doug Glover I traded for). Guys like that are pretty damn cool.

I'll very, very interested in seeing how his next contract (or extension) plays out. $7 Million/per year is the bargain of the league right now. Will he command 3 times that or possibly 4x in 2035?
Or will he give the 'Canes a hometown discount?

He definitely is a generational talent for us (a single HR shy of his 4th straight 40/40 season). I called him up early and didn't hold back his service time. I'm sure it doesn't matter, but he has been good about taking multi-year extensions to give us financial certainty. The $7m is a bargain, but he'd have still been in arbitration, so it wouldn't have been crazy high this year. His $8.5m next year in what would have been his first free agent year is the real bargain. I'm scared to see what he'll want in an extension.Spiccoli wrote:I'll very, very interested in seeing how his next contract (or extension) plays out. $7 Million/per year is the bargain of the league right now.
