In a year when the pitching was supposed to be improved, the Hurricane offense went out and stole the show, putting the broken down pitching staff on their collective backs and hauling the team across the finish line for the club's 4th straight playoff appearance. How did they do it? Why, the same way this era of Hurricanes teams always seems to produce, through lots (and lots) of dingers.
2032 marked the 3rd straight season of 220+ HR from Jacksonville and this year was the best of them all, as the Hurricanes 258 HR were the most in 13 seasons (2013 Calgary Marauders, 262 HR)! Thanks to sluggers like Sergio Ramos, Norris Rutledge, Bertram Hahn, and David Noboru, the Hurricanes have averaged nearly 240 HR a season since 3030, leading the JL two of the three seasons. The 258 homers is also the most for the franchise since the crazy 1987 season when four different teams (including Greenville) hit 280+ HR(!)
Will they be able to slug their way to another title? I wouldn't hold my breath. Still, it has been a wild (and sometimes fun) ride. With the unstoppable force that is the 'Canes offense running into the immovable object that is the Outlaws pitching staff (1st in JL in RA, 2nd in the BBA) this series looks like it could be highly entertaining.
