Daniel Labrie Retires

He retired in the offseason and I’ve been meaning to get around to acknowledging the career of Daniel Labrie.

Daniel Labrie, one of the all time greats in the MBWBA, has decided to call it a career. The longtime Monarch has spent his entire career with the Balitmore franchise. Labrie appeared in 2599 games during his professional baseball career: only 7 games in single A, 2495 in the MBWBA regular season, and 97 MBWBA playoff games.

Labrie was simply one of the greatest offensive players the league has ever seen. His career .440 OBP leads the modern day MBWBA all time statistics and would have also put him first on the historical MBBA leaderboard. In 18 MBWBA seasons Labrie also led the Monarchs to 14 playoff appearances. Amazingly Labrie never won a Sawyer Silk Award. I could go on and on reciting unbelievable stats but instead I’ll summarize a couple key points:

- Other than his first and last year he averaged 554 AB’s per season. Remarkably consistant and healthy.
- His worst year in that 16 season period was a .297/.421/.449 slash line. A career year for most.
- 374 Home runs. 1137 Walks. 3131 Hits. A career .337/.440/.504 slash line. One of the best ever and definition of a Hall of Fame Career.

The fans are sad to see him go. Unlikely there will ever be a player quite like Labrie who was basically the best hitter on some great Baltimore offenses for the better part of two decades. I think he has a great shot to get in the HOF on the first ballot and I’ll be shamelessly plugging him.

It isn't a matter of whether Labrie is a HOF or not, its all about what level he's on! haha

With stats like that, he could see himself as a Level 3 guy (Ready to post by this weekend).

I hate that part of this game. Basically I'm ignoring it.

Besides, he failed the drug test in 2012. Aging player desperately trying to hold onto something. It's more tragic than hate-worthy.
