Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Home Opener A Success (2057.8)

Post by lordtoffee » Sun Nov 19, 2023 9:19 pm

After an offseason filled with new signings, a spring training that was competitive, and hope that 2058 would be a step in the right direction after years of false starts, the Robins welcomed Charm City to Ebbets Field for Opening Day. The weather was decent for early April in Brooklyn, and after 2026 BBA champion Enrique Salazar threw out the ceremonial first pitch, it was time for the Robins to show their fans and the BBA community their first glimpse at how the 2058 Robins would perform.

Ollie Lowry couldn't quite last 5 innings, but he only allowed 2 runs and kept the Robins in it. But the most impressive performance came from new center fielder Omer Dijkstra. The veteran quickly built up some goodwill from the Robins fans by hitting a grand slam to chase Charm City's starter and break a 2-0 game wide open. He then followed that up in the 5th by hitting a 2 run shot to further pad the Robins lead. The Robins would soon get another grand slam as Ernest McBride hit another granny to make it 12-2 Robins, and the Robins ended up cruising home 14-3.

All in all, there was a positive feeling surrounding Ebbets Field for one day. Now, the Robins are likely not going to pull off a miracle improvement to make the postseason this year, as the team will need to get some more talent in from both the minors, drafting, and free agency to truly compete for a playoff berth. But there is hope in Brooklyn, as there is light at the end of the tunnel.
