Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Continue to Plug In Holes (2057.6)

It turns out the Robins weren't done with their free agent shopping this year, as they ended up adding more pitchers and a new outfielder to the mix. It's still unknown what exactly "The Decision" is, but the Robins have clearly been active in attempting to plug into free agency. By looking at the measure of WAR added at this point in the offseason, Brooklyn has added from last year a net total of 7 WAR. That places them 2nd behind only Calgary, and certainly it was something that the BBA hot stove wasn't expecting.

The first addition that the Robins made was to get pitcher Ken Arroyo in. The veteran has of course spent his entire career with Valencia, and is coming in to help bolster a Robins rotation that was freaking dire last season. He is projected to be somewhere in the middle of the rotation backing up Lowry. To further back up Lowry and fill out the rotation, the Robins have decided to add another veteran pitcher in Cheuk-yan Liu, who joins the Robins after spending last season in Long Beach. Liu is looking to bounce back after a tough season in Long Beach, but he is familiar with the Atlantic after spending time with Atlantic City in the past. To bolster the bullpen, the Robins also signed Pablo Alcantara after spending last season with Las Vegas. Alcantara has struggled a bit, but the Robins are hoping that with him coming into be a middle relief guy that he can be a steady part of the Robins bullpen.

But the Robins didn't just get one player from Las Vegas, they also made the decision to sign Omer Dijkstra to play CF. The Robins are hoping that Omer's speed and pop will add some more offense to the Robins, and his veteran presence will help this young team continue to take the next steps.
