Brooklyn State of Mind: Luis Escobar Is a Top 100 Prospect (2057.3)

The Robins are probably still near the bottom of the league, though the minor league system is starting to bear at least some fruit. While it is certainly true that the Robins aren't going to be at the top 5 level of the minor league system, there are 3 prospects in the top 100 list as of this writing. But one of those prospects is a bit of a surprise. Liyongo and Bullock were both premium draft picks, so their inclusion on the list isn't going to be raising eyebrows. And no, those two are going to be needed to get some seasoning in the minors and are going to be pushing for the majors in a couple of years, and they will get some help in the next draft, though the draft is for another time and place.

Luis Escobar was a 15th round pick in the 2055 draft with the expectation that he was going to be a minor league piece that would be a low risk pick. That's the nature of a 15th round pick, and in the case of Escobar he was not a great hitter and entered the draft at the age of 16. Obviously, he is going to be younger against older competition, which is a consideration at the HS/College/Rookie levels. However, Escobar did show some better numbers at Lexington after turning 17 and 18. But what makes Escobar intriguing is that he can grow given his ratings. He could grow into something that could mean a good AA or AAA player, or even a Robin in the future. So for Robins fans who love the minors, Escobar is another name to look for. And no, there is still no comment about "The Decision" at this point in time.
