Brooklyn State of Mind: Miranda Newcomer of Year? (2056.4)

Post by lordtoffee » Tue Oct 24, 2023 5:24 pm

The Robins this year were very much an out of sight and out of mind team for most of the year, as they stumbled to another last place finish in the Atlantic and another high draft pick, which isn't what anyone wanted out of this team. So the idea that anyone might get awards at the BBA banquet this offseason wouldn't be a high possibility. But in terms of the Newcomer of the Year, Lawrence Miranda should get some consideration from the voters who decide these things.

At the start of the season, Miranda was a rookie who had been brought up without a stint at AAA San Francisco, and it was fair to say that there was a bunch of doubters. Brooklyn hasn't had too many memorable rookie seasons in recent years, and their prospects have generally needed time to gel and grow into something, as seen by Emilio Morales Jr and Stephen Clulow. But then a funny thing started to happen. As mentioned earlier, Miranda had been getting better as he came up through the minor league ranks, and the hope was that he would take some time to adjust. Well, it turns out that Miranda decided that he liked facing BBA pitching just fine, and had a 20 game hitting streak in May, and kept on hitting for a good to great average each month, and ended up hitting over .300 as a rookie. A rookie with no AAA experience ended up hitting .300, and at no point was a top 100 prospect or even considered one to watch for. That's an incredible feat, and something that shows that Miranda is going to have a good part to play next year. So when you are voting, give Miranda some consideration. He probably won't win, but should get some votes.

Miranda is a fun player. Too much competition for the JL Gillstrom this year to put him on the ballot, but .317/.353/.402 is impressive and i look forward to seeing more hitting streaks out of this contact machine!

Thanks Lane, and Miranda has certainly been a small part of a very impressive group of young players in the JL this year.
