The Robins have been active in the offseason, and after attempting to fix the defense made it an effort to prioritize going after pitchers in the Rule 5 draft. That move has raised eyebrows around the league, and for good reason. But the front office has a plan. If you take a look around the league, there has been a fair amount of talent in the Rule 5 draft, and the Robins knew that. So they decided to get 5 pitchers who are going to be in the rotation and/or bullpen this season.
It has been no secret that the Robins have been struggling with run prevention, and with the added investments in the defensive game, the Robins project to improve in those ranks, which should give the pitchers a fighting chance. The Robins are also hoping that someone like Chad Keever, Luis Pereles, or Hokata Etana can use the chance they have gotten to better the rotation or bullpen this year, which will give the Robins a better chance at success.
