Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins GM Takes Trip To Cayman Islands (2048.3)

It was clear that the Robins are going to need a reboot, and since there has been a toxic atmosphere at Robins home games, President of Baseball Operations and Likely Next on the Unemployment Line Ben Heuring decided to fly away to the Cayman Islands to take a look at the S A George Town Palms. Heuring's contract states that he is able to go to minor league games whenever he wants, and that all travel is to be paid for by ownership. Hey, the man needs to take a look at his prospects, and if you were able to go to a tropical island to watch baseball while drinking on the beach at night on the company dime, why wouldn't you use that contract clause?

While watching the Palms finish third in their division, Heuring was able to take a closer look at some of the younger players, and took a look at one of his top pitching prospects. Carroll Baskin, who shockingly isn't the owner of an exotic cat rescue place in Florida when he's not pitching, has been performing well despite the fact that his numbers don't look great. At the Single A level, it's about development first, though any trophies won at the minor league level are a nice bonus. Baskin is a hard prospect to grade, because knuckleballers are by their very nature the hardest pitchers to judge. Just ask R.A. Dickey. But Baskin looks like he could try and find a home in Double A, and be part of the first wave of the rebuilt rotation that sources have indicated is going to be a huge focus by the minor league development.
