Brooklyn State of Mind: Cantrell Watch (2047.5)

The major league team might have been a burning dumpster fire all year, but the good news is that at the minor league level things are looking better for the Robins. The BBA farm ratings aren't the perfect measure by any means, but the current rankings by Baseball America have the Robins at 13th among the 32 BBA clubs. That is one spot ahead of the Nine, which is a playoff team for the record. And with a high draft pick coming up from a decent looking draft pool, the Robins can continue to build the next generation of stars that will be the true judge of the President of Baseball Operations and what he has been doing, if one views the draft as the ultimate judge of a GM in this league.

The best prospect in the minor league pool is Arnold Cantrell , who is currently at AAA San Francisco. He was signed to a minor league contract and wasn't drafted back in 2044, but has had a good minor league career if you take out some of the records, as he has been on a fairly quick rise through the Robins system. Cantrell is a top 15 prospect in the league, and projects currently as a starting pitcher, though that is of course subject to change. A strong candidate for some PP love in the future, he has 3 pitches that look to be elite level based on internal scouting grades, and did make the Futures Game during the All Star festivities earlier this year. So when can Robins fans expect to see the young phenom in the borough?

Not yet, cautions team sources. He still has some things to work on at AAA, and sources close to the President of Baseball Operations indicate that he would like to use some PP love and round out some things. It's been known that the President was out watching all of the minor league teams closely, but is unknown what he was looking for. When asked, the President said "I'm just at Pac Bell for the garlic fries."
