Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Secure Playoff Matchup Against Blazers (2045.5)

Post by lordtoffee » Wed Jan 27, 2021 12:20 am

The Robins came into the last 4 games of the year needing to win 2 games to clinch a playoff berth. Well, they were able to secure a playoff berth after a win against the Crawdads, and clinched a return to the playoffs as the 3rd wild card, missing out on home field because of an 6-8 record against the Montreal Blazers. Robins fans can be assured that the team has steadily improved from the preseason prediction of 80-82 in the Media Guide into a team that has a chance to try and advance.

Losing Pierre Legrand for half the year sucked and could have been the end of the Robins, but the team responded. In particular, the starting pitching really showed up the depth of the rotation. Juan Rodriguez might not get a lot of the attention, but he stepped up and provided 16 victories with his trademark ho hum and consistency. The entire pitching staff was able to keep teams at bay with strong numbers in BABIP, ERA, Runs, Hits, and it all added up to getting a playoff berth.

The Robins are quite comfortable with being the underdogs, which is a bit odd considering that they are playing in the biggest media market in the country. But it suits the character of the team. They might not have a lot of superstars, but they show up and win. If the Robins can go all the way, they might not be the most memorable team in the Landis bracket. The Heartland teams can keep on hyping up their division, but in Brooklyn the Robins don't need to convince others how good they are. They hope to let their play on the field do the talking, and hope to let the banner raising do the talking. And I'm not talking about the Heartland one.
