Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Make Trade, Keep Fighting In Wild Card (2045.3)

The Robins got a couple of pieces of good news recently. The injury crisis has lessened and the Robins got two good pitchers back, and then GM Ben Heuring went out and made a trade to fortify the bullpen further. He struck a deal for Outlaws closer Aguste Balun in exchange for SS Jorge Lugo and a prospect. The trade does appear curious that Heuring would trade his starting third baseman for a closer, but there are some reasons. First, Lugo was on an expiring contract, so at least the team got something. Secondly, the salary cap has a bit more of room to work with in case someone else pops up in the trade market on offense or to improve the rotation. Balun had struggled for the Outlaws, but hopefully the change of scenery would help him get back to his heroics from last year, and also adds plenty of postseason experience on an expiring contract that could be renewed if the front office likes what it seems.

In terms of the playoff race, the Robins are only 4.5 back of the Pikemen, but it is honestly going to be harder to get the bye to the second round. Aaron always has a good team down the stretch, and the trade market is going to be busy in the Atlantic and with the Talons back in the hunt again. The main goal for this team is to try and get home field in the first round, but that could be tough. A lot of games left will be between Atlantic contenders, and it is important to avoid injuries and slumps. The Robins are in a good spot, but will need to keep fighting as nothing will come easy.

I'd say he is doing quite well in his new environment

He has been looking good so far, with the BABIP being the only concern so far. Looks like Lugo is doing well for you.
