Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Double Clutch (2044.7)

Post by lordtoffee » Wed Nov 04, 2020 11:38 pm

It has been a season of ups and downs for the Robins. There were trades and transactions galore, and the team took the hard road in final month of the season as they saw a lead in the Wild Card diminish to nothing entering the second to last day of the season. With the Talons coming in hot, it was up to the Robins to win their last two games.

In the second to last game, the Robins were locked into a 1-1 game against the divisional rival Atlantic City Gamblers. With the Talons having already lost, the Robins needed to win to make sure that their destiny was in their own hands. The bullpen had been clutch as the game went into extra innings, and then it was time for a hero. Brian Dixon had been sent down to AAA San Francisco after struggling early in the season, and the young third baseman sent the crowd at McDermott Park into delirium by delivering a walk off single. All of a sudden, the Robins fans felt the joy that baseball brings. No matter what, a team can come up clutch when it matters. And the next day they would have their ace on the mound.

As the regular season came to the final day, the Robins fans were energized. As the crowd began to file in, they started to chant. "Thank you Aztecs! Let's go Robins! We Believe! Brooklyn State of Mind!" All of a sudden, the Robins got good news as they started to play against the Gamblers. A good chunk of the fans had headphones listening to the radio feed of the Talons game. Once the Aztecs jumped out to a good sized lead, the crowd went crazy. The Robins didn't get much offense again, but they didn't need much to support the pitching staff. Pierre Legrand was the first signing that Ben Heuring made, and was brought in for starts like this. He pitched 8 innings of strong baseball, and left it to the bullpen. After a 2 run homer in the middle innings, Legrand cruised and the celebration could begin.

The Robins will take on the New Orleans Crawdads in the Geoghegan Round, with the first two games on the road. Thanks to the delay in the schedule, the Robins will have their rotation all lined up. It should be a lot of fun. Best of luck to the Crawdads, and the other playoff teams.
